During 2011 we saw images in the media and read of the violence that swept through Ivory Coast following the disputed presidential elections; the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan; of women and children in desperate need arriving at refugee camps in Somalia and Kenya after fleeing conflict and drought; and of the growing political unrest in the Middle East. As you will read in our Annual Review, through direct response and support for our partner organisations, the IRC responded to each of these crises, providing services and care to people who had fled their homes.
As well as responding to emergencies, the IRC helps communities to recover and rebuild. So you can also read about the impact of our work in Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Myanmar; our advocacy efforts in the UK and Europe, and our commitment to improving the lives of women and girls.
