Humanitarian crises leave millions around the world deprived of the base we all need to feel protected and comfortable, to be ourselves – home.

Funded by the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO), On Solid Ground is a project by International Rescue Committee UK and Panos Pictures that uses the idea of home to allow audiences across Europe to connect with the issues faced by people hit by some of the most devastating humanitarian crises around the world.

We are proud to launch the project on the occasion of World Refugee Day. On Solid Ground will feature images, stories and short fillms about the lives of families and individuals from Burundi, Croatia, Democratic Repulic of Congo, Jordan, Kenya, Mali and Pakistan. With it we ask what it means to be forced to flee your home in an instant and rebuild a life away from your community.

Beginning in London at St Martin in the Fields, the project will tour as an exhibition throughout Europe, stopping in France, at the Perpignan photography festival in September, Austria, Belgium, Croatia and Germany.

Join the conversation on Twitter, Facebook, and share on Tumblr and Pinterest and let us know what home means you. #OnSolidGround
