Responding to the announcement that 130 more unaccompanied children would be accepted under the Dubs scheme Melanie Ward, Associate Director of Policy and Advocacy at the International Rescue Committee said:

“While we welcome the announcement that a further 130 unaccompanied children will be relocated under the Dubs Amendment, 480 is still a fraction of the original 3,000 which was expected.

There are thousands more children in Europe who are travelling or stranded without their families and in urgent need of protection. Recent reports have highlighted the acute dangers that these children face.

All parties must commit to urgently protect and offer refuge to vulnerable unaccompanied children in Europe. There has been strong and demonstrable public will on this issue, which must be met with political action.”
