Sanjayan Srikanthan, Senior Vice President, Europe & Executive Director, IRC UK said:

“The IRC welcomes the IDC suggestions for a National strategy on Migration and Forced Displacement. When we talk about migration here in the UK, we often ignore the fact that 80% of worldwide refugees are hosted in developing countries.

The protracted nature of many of today’s conflicts means that most refugees will spend at least a decade living in low income countries where they desperately need opportunities to access employment and education. The UK is signed up to the Global Goals for sustainable development, but without substantial action, we risk failing those people who have been forced to flee the violence and persecution that the international community has failed to stop."
