International Rescue Committee Annual Report 2019

The International Rescue Committee’s mission is to help people whose lives and livelihoods have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and regain control of their futures.

We serve people in crisis across the globe who have fled their homes or remained resilient in their communities.

Our vision is to lead the humanitarian field by implementing high-impact, cost-effective programmes for people affected by crisis, whilst we shape policy and push for change from a local to global level.

In 2019, the IRC stepped up to respond to urgent health needs like malnutrition, educate vulnerable displaced children, and train female refugees to help them rebuild their livelihoods and their futures.

This annual report demonstrates the International Rescue Committee’s work in 2019 and our continued commitment to our clients in over 40 countries, including:

  • In Yemen, where the IRC is a major provider of humanitarian assistance. Each week, the IRC delivers health services, rehabilitates water points for access to clean water, offers nutrition assistance and treatment to children, provides cash transfers to families, and supports women in safe spaces.
  • In Syria, where the IRC conducted Rapid Needs Assessments in 11 Syrian communities to assist newly displaced people, finding that their most urgent needs were shelter, food and fuel to keep warm.
  • In Greece, where the IRC leads economic recovery and development work, protection and psychological support, and much-needed water, sanitation and hygiene services.
